Huelskamp Joins Effort to Stop Obama from Raising Utility Rates

Press Release

Date: Feb. 23, 2016
Issues: Energy Legal

On Tuesday, Congressman Huelskamp joined members of the United States House and Senate to file an amicus brief to support the 29 states in the State of West Virginia et al v. EPA litigation pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Kansas is among the states in the lawsuit. Rural Kansas is heavily dependent on coal-fired power and the utility bills of hard-working Kansans would be dramatically increased by Obama's regulatory plan.

On February 9, the Supreme Court, in one of the last majority rulings for the great Justice Antonin Scalia, blocked President Obama's so-called "Clean Power" Plant plan. It will remain blocked until the Supreme Court decides its fate. In the amicus brief, 171 representatives and 34 senators state the unlawfulness of the president and the EPA's attempt to redefine our country's energy sector to suit their climate change agenda.

Congress passed legislation to reject the "clean power" rule in December. House and Senate Republicans are working on a plan to fight back against Obama's lawless executive orders and restore the Constitution.

Congressman Huelskamp released the following statement on the amicus brief:

"Obama and his EPA must end their war on coal and America's electricity consumers. I will continue to work closely with Sunflower Cooperative in Kansas, our related rural electric cooperatives, and tens of thousands of consumers across rural Kansas to ensure we have the abundant and affordable energy we deserve."
